“Fauré has no age and never will he”, Saint-Saëns used to say. At the time Debussy and Ravel were signing off on their own piano music, Fauré was giving birth to a timeless piano œuvre thanks to his resolutely personal language. Perfectly at ease harnessing unexpected tonalities, slipping in new harmonies or pouring liquid rhythms, he resurrected the taste for absolute music and consecrated the era of pure piano.
