Born in Paris in 1990, Victor Julien-Laferri\u00e8re began the cello with Ren\u00e9 Benedetti, then studied successively with Roland Pidoux at the Conservatoire National Sup\u00e9rieur de Paris (2004-08), Heinrich Schiff at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (2009-14) and Clemens Hagen at the Salzburg Mozarteum (2014-16). In parallel with these studies, he took part in Seiji Ozawa\u2019s International Music Academy Switzerland from 2005 to 2011.<\/p>\n
He won the First Prize and the two special prizes at the Prague Spring International Competition in 2012, playing the Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Concerto in the final. These prizes led to concerts with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France at the Prague Spring Festival, with the Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra at the Central European Music Festival and with the State Hermitage Orchestra at the Olympus Festival in St Petersburg.<\/p>\n
He has also been invited to appear at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es, Auditorium du Louvre, Cit\u00e9 de la Musique and Salle Gaveau in Paris, the KKL in Lucerne, the Zurich Tonhalle, the Op\u00e9ra de Dijon, and such festivals as Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Kuhmo, Gstaad, Deauville, La Folle Journ\u00e9e in Nantes and Tokyo, and the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival.<\/p>\n
Nominated for the Victoires de la Musique Classique in 2013, Victor Julien-Laferri\u00e8re receives support from the Fonds Instrumental Fran\u00e7ais, holds a scholarship from the Fondation Groupe Banque Populaire, and was awarded the Prizes of the Fondation Safran pour la Musique in 2013 and the Fondation Oulmont in 2012. Alongside his solo career, Victor Julien-Laferri\u00e8re is also an enthusiastic chamber musician. In 2009 he founded the Trio Les Esprits with the violinist Mi-Sa Yang and the pianist Adam Laloum.
