Born into a family of musicians, Bertrand Cuiller began studying the harpsichord with his mother Jocelyne at the age of eight. At thirteen he met Pierre Hanta\u00ef, who was his mentor for several years. He also studied the harpsichord with Christophe Rousset at the Conservatoire National Sup\u00e9rieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. His fascination with the sound of the horn led to his learning to play both the Baroque and the modern instrument. In 1998, at the age of nineteen, he won third prize at the Bruges International Harpsichord Competition.<\/p>\n
Bertrand Cuiller devotes his recital career to the solo harpsichord repertory, with a particular penchant for the English composers William Byrd and John Bull, whose music he has recorded for Mirare and Alpha. His discography for these labels also includes harpsichord concertos by J. S. Bach with his father Daniel Cuiller and Stradivaria, and sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti.<\/p>\n
In 2014 Bertrand Cuiller formed the Baroque ensemble Le Caravans\u00e9rail, with the aim of mounting projects centring on composers who are especially close to his heart and whose music he wishes to explore with larger forces.
\nHe also appears as a chamber musician with Bruno Cocset and Les Basses R\u00e9unies, as a member of La R\u00eaveuse, and in duo repertory with Sophie Gent, Marine Sablonni\u00e8re, and Jana Semer\u00e1dov\u00e1.<\/p>\n
Bertrand Cuiller has created several productions with the actress and director Louise Moaty, including John Blow\u2019s opera Venus and Adonis in the 2012\/13 season, in which he conducted the chorus and orchestra of Les Musiciens du Paradis and the Ma\u00eetrise de Caen, with C\u00e9line Scheen and Marc Mauillon in the title roles.<\/p>\n
