Alexander Vedernikov was born in Moscow into a family of famous musicians. His opera singer father was known for his interpretations of Boris Godunov and Kutuzov (War and Peace) and his mother was a professor of organ at the Moscow Conservatory, where he too studied, graduating in 1990. Alexander Vedernikov was Musical Director of the Bolshoi Theatre from 2001 to 2009 and is credited with having restored that institution\u2019s historic reputation for artistic excellence. His renown has grown constantly since then, and he is regularly invited to appear with numerous orchestras, among them the London Philharmonic, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Verdi Milan, the NHK Symphony, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (with Martha Argerich at her festival in Lugano), the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Philharmonic. He has also worked with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Philharmonic, among others. He recently made debuts with the Orchestre de Paris and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In September 2009 Alexander Vedernikov was appointed Principal Conductor of the Odense Symphony Orchestra in Denmark.
