This programme is intended as a portrait of Liszt\u2019s love affairs through the prism of the works inspired by these muses who traversed his life. We first meet the composer with Countess Marie d\u2019Agoult: their idyllic escapade in the Swiss Alps produced the Premi\u00e8re Ann\u00e9e de P\u00e8lerinage. The last affair of Liszt, by then an abb\u00e9 in minor orders, was with Baroness Olga von Meyendorff, to whom he dedicated the magnificent and rarely heard Impromptu subtitled \u2018Nocturne\u2019. Finally, the programme evokes his long, fruitful relationship with Princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, whose aura and erudition stimulated him to compose his greatest masterpieces, among them the Harmonies po\u00e9tiques et religieuses and the monumental Sonata in B minor.
