The permanent orchestra of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the Orchestre Victor Hugo performs a repertoire ranging from Bach to Stravinsky, Lili Boulanger to Philip Glass, Debussy to Mahler, as well as jazz-rock. He also creates innovative projects combining writers, dancers, jazz musicians, video artists, or DJs. Since 2010, under the artistic direction of Jean-François Verdier, he has performed with major soloists and conductors: Renée Fleming, Sandrine Piau, Piotr Beczała, Ludovic Tézier, François Leleux, Isabelle Faust, Nemanja Radulović, Abdel Rahman El Bacha, Alexandre Kantorow, Paul Meyer, Sigiswald Kuijken, Bertrand de Billy, Reinhardt Goebel, Debora Waldman, Sofi Jeannin…

A close-knit and dynamic collective of musicians, he has appeared at the Philharmonie de Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Eurockéennes de Belfort, La Folle Journée de Nantes, Festi’neuch, Festival Berlioz… and reaches out to all audiences, especially children and teenagers, with specially designed artistic projects.

The orchestra is among the most inventive in discography, with more than twenty albums praised by the press (Gramophone’s Choice, Diapason d’or, Disque de diamant, Chocs de Classica…).

He is funded by the City of Besançon, the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, the City of Montbéliard, and Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération through a joint syndicate, and receives support from the French Ministry of Culture (DRAC Bourgogne-Franche-Comté).
